The "knurling" comes from metalworking. The metal turner presses the knurling tool with the support against the workpiece to be knurled. In this way, for example, the "grip" of control elements or screw caps is increased and a beautiful ornament is applied at the same time. The wood turner can also make use of this ornamentation. For this purpose, the turner has to place the knurling tool (knurled fork with knurled wheel) on the hand support rail and press it firmly against the workpiece. This creates a fine ornament. Depending on which wheel you use, you can achieve an axially parallel corrugation or an inclined or cross corrugation. The picture shows a cross corrugation that was carried out by a turner who has experience in this area.
