Insert pins (also called taper mandrels) are used to hold drill chucks.
An extraction nut is necessary if the Morse taper cannot be loosened by a hollow spindle using an ejector rod, or if there are no slots in the spindle through which the Morse taper can be ejected using a wedge on the ejector tab.
