Copying lathe steel Tantum (also called Tantung, fine-grained alloy cast in molds with high cobalt content. Tantum occupies the intermediate position between high-speed steel HSS and carbide and is a tough material).In these copy turning steels, a tantum cutting insert is brazed onto a steel carrier. The cutting insert has a useful length of approx. 40 mm. The carrier has a square cross-section of 19x19 mm and a total length of 140 mm. To achieve a high cutting edge sharpness, grinding on a fine-grained high-grade corundum wheel (80 or 100 Jot) and honing with a diamond file (600 grit) is required. This achieves good cutting edge sharpness. The cutting edge life is many times longer than with HSS.
