What exactly distinguishes the Famag Forstner bit?

Forstner bits are characterized by their short tip, which is used for precise setting and centering. They have two chip-removing cutting edges and two peripheral cutting edges that pre-cut the edge of the hole. Thanks to the upward tapering drill head, friction is minimized. Particularly noteworthy is the shape of the peripheral cutting edges, which allows laterally open holes with optimal guidance.

The Famag Forstner bits presented in the Drechslershop, in particular the Famag Bormax, combine the advantages of conventional Forstner bits and artificial bits. Their serrated wave form of the peripheral cutting edge prevents the formation of long chips and ensures efficient cutting with reduced feed forces. The interrupted design of the peripheral cutting edge (cooling fin principle) avoids excessive heat generation, which contributes to a longer service life and the highest drilling quality. Thus, fast drilling in materials such as softwood, European hardwood, chipboard and MDF can be realized without any problems. Another plus point: resharpening Famag Forstner bits is uncomplicated.

For which purposes are Famag Forstner bits ideal?

Famag Forstner bits are perfect for drilling blind holes - i.e. holes that do not completely penetrate the material. They are particularly suitable for making holes for pot hinges or candle grommets. Even the drilling of knotholes, for which the Forstner bit was originally designed, succeeds perfectly with the Famag Forstner bits.
