The Axminster Pen Mandrel "Compression" represents an evolution in mandrel design and functions differently from conventional models.When using this mandrel, the prepared pen blanks are placed on the shaft together with the required bushings. Then the supplied hollow, rotating tip is simply positioned over the shaft. By tightening the tailstock quill, the blank and bushings are held under pressure while the shaft itself remains untouched. This results in improved concentricity and reduced vibration during turning. Thanks to the guidance of the mandrel in the rotating tailstock, no additional length adjustment is required. When making many pins, the use of this mandrel allows considerable time savings.The mandrel has a diameter of 6.2 mm. Thus, this mandrel is suitable for almost all commercially available pin kits.
